What makes good food packaging for a busy kitchen?

Good food packaging does three jobs. It holds the food without leaking, keeps it in decent shape until someone eats it, and tells the customer who made it. Takeaway packaging also has to survive a delivery bag.

If you are not sure where to start, our guide to common UK takeaway box sizes lists the measurements most kitchens use.

Is custom printed food packaging worth it for a small business?

For most independents it is the cheapest advertising they will ever buy. Every box that leaves your shop carries your name into an office, a park or a family kitchen.

Custom printed food packaging in the UK used to mean huge runs. We quote per order, so a café can print sandwich wedges and salad boxes in the same look without filling a storeroom.

  • One logo across every item builds recognition
  • Printed greaseproof paper shows up in every photo
  • Plain stock with a printed sticker suits trial menus

How do you choose between kraft and white board?

Kraft board looks natural and hides small grease marks, so it suits burgers and street food. White folding board gives brighter colours, which is why bakeries pick it. Corrugated E or B flute keeps its shape when food is hot and steamy, so pizza, chicken and catering boxes use it.

Common questions about ordering food packaging

Search the questions or pick a topic.

Still unsure? Call +44 7578 382054, ask us on WhatsApp or write to info@thefoodpackaging.co.uk.

How much does printed food packaging cost?

Prices start from £0.25 per unit. The exact figure depends on the item, size, print and quantity, and it is confirmed on your written quote.

Is there a minimum order?

Quantities are quoted per order. Tell us how many you would really use and we will price that, along with a nearby quantity if it gives a better unit price.

Can I mix several products on one order?

Yes. Many kitchens order burger boxes, chip scoops and printed greaseproof paper together in one look, and we quote each item on the same quote.

How quickly will I get a quote?

We reply within one business day, usually with a price and a first design proof attached.

Do I need finished artwork before I ask for a price?

No. A logo file is enough to start, and our designers lay it out on the packaging for your free proof.

Which file types should I send for my logo?

PDF, AI, EPS or SVG files print sharpest. A large PNG or JPG also works, and we will tell you if it looks blurry at print size.

Can you match my brand colours?

We print to the colour references you give us. Kraft board darkens colours a little, so your proof notes when white board would be the closer match.

Is your packaging suitable for direct food contact?

Food-contact materials are available on request. Tell us what the food is and we confirm the board, coating or lining for your order on the quote.

Will greasy food soak through the box?

Plain board can mark with very oily food. For burgers, fried chicken and chips we suggest a grease-resistant lining or a greaseproof wrap inside, which we can add on request.

How long does production take?

Production takes 4–6 business days after you approve the proof. Nothing is printed until you say yes.

Do you charge for delivery?

No. Delivery is free and tracked to any address in the UK, and it usually takes 2–3 business days after production.

What happens if my order arrives misprinted or damaged?

Send us photos within 10 days of delivery. We reprint the affected packaging or refund it, as set out on our reprints and refunds policy page.
