Quick answer

What are double burger boxes?

Double burger boxes are larger hinged card boxes made for more burger than a standard box holds. One style is taller for stacked patties, and the other is longer so two burgers sit next to each other. Both are made to your size in kraft or white board.

Key facts

  • Tall style for double stacks
  • Twin style holds two burgers
  • E flute for heavier loads
  • Front tab lock on both styles

What counts as a double burger box?

The name covers two different jobs. A double stack needs height, while a pair of burgers needs length.

The tall version keeps the same square footprint as a single box but adds 20 to 40 mm of wall. The twin version stretches the base so two buns sit in a row under one lid.

Our photos show both: the long kraft twin box with two sesame buns, and the taller square box next to it.

Pick the style by the order, not the menu name. A shop calling its burger a double may still only need a standard box if the patties are thin smash patties.

Tall or twin: which double box do you need?

Start with what leaves the kitchen most often. If customers order one big burger, pick tall. If they order two burgers for one address, the twin box saves a second box and a second fold.

Which menus need a bigger burger box?

Double boxes show up wherever portions grow. They are common on late-night menus, in smash burger shops and on meal deals that pair two burgers.

  • Double and triple smash stacks with cheese between patties
  • Two-for deals where one rider carries both burgers
  • Chicken fillet burgers ordered in pairs
  • Shared boxes for couples ordering the same burger
  • Event stalls serving a signature tall burger

How tall should a double burger box be?

Build your biggest burger, then measure it from the plate to the top of the bun. Add 10 mm so the lid closes without touching the crown.

Many double stacks with cheese measure 95 to 110 mm tall once assembled. A skewer through the middle can add more, so check it if you use one.

Width matters too. Melted cheese spreads, and a box that is too tight pulls it off when the burger is lifted out. Our UK food packaging sizes guide lists common measurements across burger styles.

Why weight changes the board choice

Two patties, two slices and extra sauce can double the weight of a single burger. Thin folding board flexes under that load when the box is carried by its base.

E flute corrugated, about 1.5 mm, keeps the floor flat and the walls upright. For twin boxes carrying two heavy burgers, B flute, about 3 mm, adds extra stiffness along the long side.

A grease-resistant lining or coating, on request, protects the floor from dripping sauce. Our guide to coated board and linings explains the options, and food-contact materials are available on request.

How do you keep a tall burger standing upright?

Tall stacks lean as the cheese melts and the bun steams. A box with a snug base holds the bottom bun in place so the stack cannot tip.

A skewer through the centre helps on the tallest builds, but it needs head room. Measure with the skewer in before you order.

Close the lid gently and press only on the tab, not the top. Pressing the lid flat is the quickest way to squash the crown into the sauce.

Keep tall boxes on the floor of the delivery bag. Higher up, they rock on bumps and the burger ends up resting against a wall.

How do you stop two burgers sliding together?

In a twin box the burgers can drift into each other on a sharp turn. Size the base so each bun has about 5 mm of space, not more.

Some kitchens wrap each burger in a printed sheet first. The paper adds grip and keeps two different builds apart, which helps when one is vegetarian.

Mark which burger is which on the lid edge with a pen or order sticker. That saves the customer opening both wraps.

Twin boxes also suit kids' pairs and lunch deals where one person collects for two. A single tab keeps both burgers shut in, so nothing slides out at the counter.

Branding a larger lid

A twin box gives you a long, flat lid that suits a wide wordmark or a strap line. A tall box gives you taller side walls, which show in photos customers post.

Print options run from plain to one colour, two colour and full colour CMYK. Inside print is available on both styles, and finishes include uncoated, matte or gloss varnish.

Our designers will set out your logo on the template for free. You check a free proof before anything goes to print.

Common mistakes with double burger boxes

These are the problems we see most often when kitchens order bigger boxes for the first time.

  1. Sizing a tall box to the burger before toppings go on.
  2. Choosing thin board for a box that carries over 400 g of food.
  3. Ordering twin boxes with no gap between the two buns.
  4. Putting the logo where the lid crease runs through it.
  5. Forgetting that a tall box sits higher in a stacked delivery bag.

Can a double box sit beside your single boxes?

Yes, and matching them helps your brand look consistent on the counter. Most shops keep the same print on both and simply change the size.

If you need the regular size as well, see our single burger boxes made to size. Ordering both together keeps the colours matched on one print run.

Double Burger Boxes: questions buyers ask

Still unsure? Call +44 7578 382054, ask us on WhatsApp or write to info@thefoodpackaging.co.uk.

Will a double burger box fit a triple stack?

Often yes, if you order the taller size. Measure your triple stack with toppings and add 10 mm for the lid.

What is a twin burger box?

It is a long hinged box with room for two burgers side by side under one lid. It suits two-burger orders going to one address.

Is corrugated board needed for double burger boxes?

It is not required, but E flute corrugated is the usual choice. It keeps the floor flat under the extra weight of a stacked burger.

Can a twin burger box hold two different burgers?

Yes. Wrapping each burger in its own sheet keeps them apart and makes it easy to tell them apart.

Do double burger boxes fold the same way as single ones?

Yes, the fold and front tab lock work the same way. Only the dimensions change.

How heavy a burger can a double box carry?

That depends on the board and size, so tell us your burger weight when you ask for a quote. We match the board to it.

Can I print my logo along the long lid of a twin box?

Yes, the long lid is a good panel for a wide logo or strap line. Our designers set it out on the template for free.

Can double burger boxes have vent holes?

Yes, vent holes or a notched lid edge are available on request. They help stop steam softening the top bun.

Should the double box match my single burger box?

Most shops keep one design and change only the size. Ordering both together helps keep the print colours consistent.

Are double burger boxes supplied flat?

Yes, they arrive flat and fold at the counter. Flat packs take far less room in a small kitchen.

Can I change sizes between orders of double boxes?

Yes, each order is made to the size you give us. Your proof shows the new dimensions before printing.

What happens if my double burger boxes arrive crushed?

Send photos within 10 days and we reprint or refund. Our reprints and refunds policy page has the details.
