What counts as a small pizza box?
We use the term for boxes that hold pizzas from about 6 to 10 inches. That covers most personal, lunch and children's pizzas.
They are built the same way as large pizza boxes. A single corrugated sheet folds into a base and walls, and a lid hinges at the back. Our photos include a small box with cut corners and a pepperoni pizza inside, and brightly printed kraft lids.
The difference is mostly in proportion. Walls are lower, the lid is smaller and the board can be lighter.
Small boxes are often the second size a shop adds after its main range. Getting them right makes lunch and family orders far simpler.
Who sells small pizzas?
Small pizzas fill gaps in a menu. They let a shop sell pizza at lunchtime, to children or alongside a main from another menu.
Students and office workers buy them too. A personal pizza at lunchtime is a regular habit near colleges and business parks.
Event caterers order them for buffets, where guests pick up a whole small pizza instead of a slice from a shared tray. If you sell by the slice instead, our printed pizza slice trays suit that better.
- Takeaways running a lunch deal with a drink and a side
- Family restaurants with a children's pizza on the menu
- Pubs serving a small pizza as a bar snack
- Coffee shops and delis heating pizzas to order
- Dessert parlours selling chocolate or fruit pizzas
Which small size should you order?
Start from your dough ball weight, not a number on a menu. Two shops calling a pizza 8 inch may stretch it to quite different sizes.
Bake a few pizzas, measure the widest point and add a few millimetres. The table above lists sizes we often make, and our guide to pizza box sizes covers measuring in detail.
Most shops need only one or two small sizes. A 7 inch for children and a 9 inch for lunch covers many menus.
Write the size on the outside of each flat bundle when it arrives. Small boxes that differ by one inch are easy to confuse on a busy shelf.
Why does board choice matter less on small boxes?
A small pizza is light and the box is short, so it does not bend in the middle like a 16 inch box. E flute, about 1.5 mm thick, is usually enough.
That keeps each box lighter and slimmer to store. A bundle of flat 8 inch boxes takes far less shelf space than the same number of large ones.
B flute, about 3 mm thick, is still available. It is worth choosing if small boxes are stacked high or carry a heavy deep pan pizza.
Kraft and white faces are both available. White suits bright children's designs, while kraft suits a simple one-colour logo.
How do small boxes fit a delivery order?
A lunch order might include a small pizza, a side and a drink. The pizza box sits flat at the bottom of the bag, and smaller items rest on top.
Several small boxes stack neatly together. Keep them in a single pile rather than side by side, so the bag stays level. If the order includes garlic bread or flatbread, our flatbread and garlic bread boxes fit beside them.
| Order type | Box mix | Packing tip |
|---|---|---|
| Lunch deal | One 8 or 9 inch box plus a side box | Pizza flat at the bottom, side on top |
| Children's party | Several 6 or 7 inch boxes | Stack no more than six high |
| Pizza and dessert | One standard box and one 6 inch box | Dessert box on top, away from heat |
Should a small box carry the same print?
Usually yes. A customer who orders a small pizza today may order a large one at the weekend, and the same look helps them remember you.
Some artwork needs adjusting for a small lid. A detailed illustration that fills a 14 inch lid can look cramped on a 7 inch box. We scale the design and send a free proof for each size.
A simpler option is to print only your logo and one colour on small boxes. It keeps them readable and lets the large box carry the full design.
Do small pizzas go soggy faster?
They can. A thin base cools and softens more quickly than a thick one, and a small box holds steam close to the crust.
Side vent holes help release that steam. A grease-resistant lining or coating on request keeps oil from soaking the box under a small, cheesy pizza.
Serve small pizzas promptly, especially on lunch deals. They are at their best within a few minutes of leaving the oven.
Children often eat more slowly than adults. A vented box keeps their pizza pleasant for longer at the table.
Packing small pizza boxes at speed
Lunch rushes are short and busy, so the routine needs to be simple.
Train new staff on this order in their first shift. A short list on the wall helps during the rush.
- Fold a stack of small boxes before the lunch service starts.
- Keep small and large boxes on separate shelves so staff grab the right size.
- Slice the pizza on a board, then slide it into the box in one move.
- Tuck the lid fully so it does not spring open in the bag.
- Add sides and drinks in a separate bag where possible.
What goes wrong with small pizza boxes?
Problems usually come from treating small boxes as an afterthought.
Each of these is easy to catch at the proof stage, so check the proof against your real pizzas.
- Ordering a size by its menu name without measuring the baked pizza
- Shrinking a busy large-box design until the logo is unreadable
- Mixing up 8 and 9 inch boxes because they look alike when flat
- Leaving out vents on boxes that travel far on delivery

What sizes count as small pizza boxes?
We usually mean boxes for pizzas of about 6 to 10 inches. Each one is made to the size of your baked pizza.
Is E flute strong enough for a small pizza box?
Yes, for most small pizzas. E flute is about 1.5 mm thick and stays flat at these sizes. B flute is available for heavy or deep pizzas.
Can small pizza boxes match my large box design?
Yes. We scale your artwork to each size and proof them all. Very busy designs may need simplifying for small lids.
What size box suits a children's pizza?
A 6 or 7 inch box is a common choice. Measure your baked children's pizza and we size the box to fit.
Can a small pizza box be used for a dessert pizza?
Yes. Many shops use a 6 inch box for chocolate or fruit dessert pizzas. It sits on top of the bag, away from the hot mains.
Do small pizza boxes have cut corners?
They can. Cut corners are available on request and give the box an octagonal look. See our octagonal and shaped pizza boxes for fully shaped styles.
How deep should a small pizza box be?
About 35 to 40 mm suits most thin and medium bases. Deep pan pizzas need more height.
Can I order several small pizza box sizes together?
Yes. List each size on your quote. Many shops order a 7 inch and a 9 inch side by side.
Will a small pizza stay crisp in the box?
Side vents let steam out and help keep the base firm. Serve small pizzas promptly for the best result.
Are small pizza boxes delivered flat?
Yes. They arrive flat in bundles and fold by hand in seconds.
Are food-contact materials available for small pizza boxes?
Yes, on request. Mention whether the boxes carry savoury or sweet pizzas, and the quote names the board.
Can small pizza boxes be plain kraft with no print?
Yes. Plain kraft or white small boxes are available. A logo sticker adds your name without a print run.
No question matches that search.
