What counts as baking parchment?

It is greaseproof paper used between a bake and its tin or tray. Batter and dough release from the paper, so tins come out clean and bakes keep their shape.

The photos show the main formats. There are kraft and white rolls, kraft paper pulled from a dispenser carton, and stacks of pre-cut rounds. One stack has two tabs on each round for lifting, and another set is packed for retail in a printed kraft envelope.

Pre-cut parchment is the quiet workhorse of a bakery. Nobody sees it, but it decides how many minutes go into lining tins before the first bake goes in.

Which format should you order?

The right format depends on how many bakes you line each day and what shape they are. Pre-cut pieces cost a little more to make but save minutes of measuring and snipping at every tin.

Who uses pre-cut parchment?

Any kitchen baking to a routine benefits. A celebration cake maker lining six 8 inch tins every morning saves real time with rounds that drop straight in.

Cafés baking brownies and flapjacks use tray sheets so each batch lifts out whole for cutting. Our bakery boxes, bags and liners cover what happens after the bake.

  • Celebration and layer cake makers
  • Café kitchens baking traybakes and biscuits
  • Cheesecake makers who need to lift bases cleanly
  • Market bakers prepping a weekend of bakes
  • Cookery schools handing out cut pieces to each student

What size round fits an 8 inch cake tin?

An 8 inch round tin is about 200 mm across inside, and a round cut to 200 mm sits flat on the base. Some bakers prefer 2 or 3 mm less so the edge never curls up the side.

Measure the inside base of the tin, not the top rim. Springform tins in particular can have a base a few millimetres smaller than the ring.

For square tins, ask for squares rather than trimming rounds. A square sheet with folded corners also lines the sides in one piece.

Loose-bottomed tart tins need a round matched to the removable disc. A round that rides up the fluted edge leaves a crease in the pastry.

Why do tabbed rounds help with cheesecakes?

A cheesecake or a deep sponge is hard to lift from a fixed-base tin. The tabs stick out over the rim, so you lift the whole bake by the paper once it has cooled.

The tabbed rounds in our photos show the shape: a circle with a strip running out from opposite sides. Tell us the tin depth and we size the tabs to reach above it.

Kraft or white baking paper?

Natural kraft paper has a warm brown colour that suits rustic bakes and traybakes served on the paper. It hides light browning from the oven.

White paper looks clean under pale sponges and meringues, and a printed logo stands out more on it. Both are greaseproof as standard.

Tell us your oven temperature and longest bake time on the quote request. We confirm a paper suited to that use before production starts.

If a bake leaves dark oil spots on plain paper, ask about a grease-resistant coating for that size only.

Does parchment work under traybakes you cut and sell?

Yes, and it makes portioning much easier. Lift a tray of brownies or flapjack out on its sheet and cut it on the bench. That protects the tin and gives straighter edges.

Ask for sheets a little larger than the tray base so the paper rises up two sides. Those overhanging edges act as handles once the bake has set.

Bakers who sell squares by weight often trim the paper with the bake and box each piece on its own square of parchment. It keeps sticky toppings off the box base.

Can baking parchment be printed with a logo?

Yes. Printed parchment suits bakes served on the paper, such as a brownie on a board or a slice of tart on a plate. Your name sits right beside the food.

One or two colour print reads clearly on greaseproof paper. Keep the design to one face and leave a plain margin round the edge. Our printed greaseproof paper for serving page covers sheets made only for wrapping and serving.

Using parchment rolls and sheets in a busy kitchen

Keep cut pieces flat and dry, in their pack, on a shelf away from the oven door. Damp paper curls and sticks to itself.

Store rounds by tin size, with the size written on the pack. Mixing 8 and 9 inch rounds in one pile means somebody trims paper again.

A roll in a dispenser carton with a serrated tear strip, like the one in our photos, keeps lengths straight. It suits odd tins that only appear on the menu now and then.

Common mistakes when ordering baking paper

Your free proof shows the cut shape and print position, which is the best moment to catch any of these.

  • Measuring the tin rim instead of the inside base
  • Ordering rounds for square or rectangular tins
  • Forgetting tins of different depths need different tab lengths
  • Printing heavy ink across the whole sheet
  • Choosing a roll when every bake uses the same tin

How do you order custom baking parchment?

Baking Parchment: questions buyers ask

Still unsure? Call +44 7578 382054, ask us on WhatsApp or write to info@thefoodpackaging.co.uk.

Can you cut baking parchment to my exact tin size?

Yes. Send the inside base measurement of each tin and we cut rounds, squares or sheets to suit.

What are tabbed parchment rounds for?

The two tabs reach above the tin rim, so you can lift a cheesecake or deep sponge out by the paper.

Is pre-cut parchment better than a roll?

For tins you use every day, yes, because it drops straight in. Rolls suit odd shapes that only appear now and then.

Do you make parchment sheets for 600 × 400 mm bakery trays?

Yes. Tray sheets around 600 × 400 mm are a common order, and we cut to your own tray if it differs.

Is your baking parchment kraft or white?

Both are available. Kraft has a natural brown look, and white suits pale bakes and printed logos.

Will baking parchment suit my oven temperature?

Tell us your temperature and longest bake time. We confirm a suitable paper on the quote before production.

Can I have my bakery name printed on parchment?

Yes. One or two colour print on one face works well, with a plain margin around the edge.

Do you make square parchment for square cake tins?

Yes. Squares lie flat and can be cut large enough to fold up the sides in one piece.

Can parchment rounds be packed for retail sale?

Tell us how you plan to sell them and we quote packing to suit. One of our photos shows rounds packed in a kraft envelope.

Are food-contact materials available for baking parchment?

Food-contact materials are available on request, confirmed on your written quote.

Can I order parchment and loaf tin liners together?

Yes, both go on one quote. Our pleated loaf tin liners handle loaf tins, and parchment covers rounds and trays.

When will my baking parchment be delivered?

Cutting and printing take 4–6 business days from proof approval. A free tracked courier then brings it to your UK address within 2–3 business days.
