What is wrap and burrito paper?
It is a printed sheet, not a box. You lay the filled tortilla on it, fold in the bottom edge and roll. The paper keeps the roll tight and stops fillings sliding out of the far end.
Once the customer starts eating, they tear the top away a band at a time. The rest stays wrapped, so their hands stay clean and the wrap does not unravel halfway through.
Who orders printed wrap paper?
Burrito bars use it most, but so do grill stalls, chicken shops and cafés selling breakfast wraps. Market traders like it because a stack of sheets takes almost no space behind the counter.
If you also sell sandwiches and baguettes, the wider sandwich and wrap packaging range shows wedges and bags that pair with these sheets.
Grill bars that toast the wrap after rolling often wrap twice. A first sheet goes on for the press, then a fresh printed sheet goes on for the customer. That keeps the outer sheet clean and the branding sharp, even when the first sheet has picked up grill marks and oil.
- Burrito and grill bars wrapping every order at the pass
- Breakfast cafés rolling egg and bacon wraps
- Chicken shops wrapping tortillas with fillets and slaw
- Festival and market traders who need light, flat stock
- Caterers sending platters of halved wraps to offices
What size sheet does a 12 inch tortilla need?
Measure the finished roll, not the flat tortilla. A loaded 12 inch burrito usually ends up around 70 to 80 mm thick and 200 mm long. A sheet of about 350 x 350 mm wraps that with enough overlap to tuck the bottom.
A 10 inch tortilla with a lighter filling often fits a 300 mm square. If your sheets are too small, the base opens on the walk to the table. Oversized sheets leave loose paper flapping at the end of the burrito.
| Tortilla | Typical roll | Sheet we often suggest |
|---|---|---|
| 8 inch | Slim, around 50 mm across | 250 x 300 mm |
| 10 inch | Standard, around 60 mm across | 300 x 300 mm |
| 12 inch | Loaded, around 75 mm across | 350 x 350 mm |
| 12 inch, halved | Two short halves side by side | 350 x 400 mm |
Greaseproof or kraft: which paper suits your fillings?
Greaseproof paper is the better pick for hot, saucy fillings. Chipotle, garlic mayo and melted cheese soak straight through plain paper, and greaseproof keeps the outside dry for longer.
Kraft paper suits drier wraps such as falafel with salad or a cold chicken Caesar. It has a brown, natural look that some brands prefer. Ask for a grease-resistant coating if you want kraft with wetter fillings.
We supply food-contact materials available on request, confirmed on your quote. For a plain comparison of paper grades, read about greaseproof paper and coated board before choosing.
How does steam affect a wrapped burrito?
A burrito straight off the plancha releases steam for several minutes. Wrapped tight, that moisture softens the tortilla from the outside in. A thin greaseproof sheet lets some of it escape, which helps the tortilla keep a bit of its toast.
For delivery, wrap the burrito first and then place it in a bag or box. The paper handles grease and grip; the outer pack handles the journey.
Cold wraps behave differently. A chilled chicken and salad wrap made in the morning can sweat in the fridge if the paper is sealed too tight. Fold it loosely at the top, or wrap it just before it goes into the display. For office catering, cut wraps in half on the diagonal and wrap each half separately so the cut faces stay neat on the platter.
How should you print wrap paper?
Wrap paper is seen at an angle and crumpled, so a single centred logo often disappears into a fold. A repeat pattern works better. Every part of the sheet carries your name, whichever side ends up facing out.
One or two colours on white greaseproof gives the cleanest look. Full colour CMYK works well for illustrated patterns like chillies, avocados or your own mascot. Our designers lay out the repeat for free before any proof is sent.
- All-over repeat: brand name and icon tiled across the sheet
- Band print: a strip of colour across the middle, like a wrapper label
- Menu print: small dish names scattered between illustrations
- Plain sheets with a printed sticker to seal the fold
How do staff wrap a burrito in paper quickly?
A fast, consistent fold matters more than the print. Train the line on one method and keep the sheets within reach of the hotplate.
- Lay the sheet as a diamond with one corner pointing at you.
- Place the rolled burrito across the sheet, a little below the middle.
- Fold the near corner up over the base of the burrito.
- Fold the two side corners in so they overlap the base.
- Roll the burrito away from you until the far corner wraps round.
- Tuck the last corner or seal it with a branded sticker.
Common mistakes when ordering wrap paper
The biggest one is ordering by tortilla size and forgetting the filling. A 12 inch tortilla with rice and beans needs far more paper than the same tortilla with salad. Wrap a real order in a test sheet before you confirm sizes.
Another is choosing a paper that is too thick. Heavy paper fights the roll and springs open. Thin greaseproof grips the burrito and tears neatly along the bite line.
Finally, avoid fine text in the artwork. Once the sheet is folded, small writing becomes unreadable. Keep words large and let the pattern do the work.
Can one sheet do more than one job?
Yes. Many burrito bars use the same printed sheet to line baskets, wrap quesadilla halves and cover trays of nachos. One design across several uses keeps reorders simple and stock in one place.
Need a heavier wrap for burgers or a basket liner? Compare these sheets with our printed burger wrapping paper before settling on one grade.

Wrap and Burrito Paper: questions buyers ask
Still unsure? Call +44 7578 382054, ask us on WhatsApp or write to info@thefoodpackaging.co.uk.
Will sauce soak through printed burrito paper?
Greaseproof paper holds back sauces and oil far longer than plain paper. For very wet fillings, ask for a grease-resistant coating on the sheet.
Can burrito paper be printed on both sides?
Most customers print one side, which shows through the fold. Tell us if you want both sides printed and we include it on the quote.
What sheet size suits a halved burrito served cut side up?
A wider sheet of about 350 x 400 mm wraps both halves together with the cut ends showing. We confirm the size against your burrito before printing.
Does wrap paper come on a roll or as sheets?
We supply flat sheets cut to your size, stacked in counted packs. Sheets are faster at a busy pass than tearing from a roll.
Can I use the same paper for falafel wraps and burritos?
Yes, if your largest wrap fits the sheet. Choose the size for your biggest roll and the smaller ones simply get a bit more overlap.
Is kraft paper suitable for hot burritos?
Plain kraft works for drier fillings. For hot, saucy burritos, choose greaseproof or ask for kraft with a grease-resistant coating.
How do I keep a wrapped burrito closed in a delivery bag?
A branded sticker over the last fold or a printed band around the middle keeps it shut. Packing the burrito seam side down also helps.
Can the print show a different message on each burrito filling?
One design per print run keeps costs down. Some shops order two designs, for example meat and vegetarian, and we quote both together.
What artwork works best on wrap paper?
A repeat pattern with a bold logo reads well even when the sheet is crumpled. Our designers prepare the repeat for free if you send your logo.
Can you match the green of my brand on greaseproof paper?
Greaseproof paper is slightly translucent, so colours print a little softer than on board. Your free proof shows the colours before you approve.
Do you supply food-contact paper for wraps?
Food-contact materials are available on request. We confirm the paper grade on your written quote.
How long until printed burrito paper arrives?
Your sheets are printed in 4–6 business days once the proof is signed off. They travel flat and reach you by free tracked UK delivery in 2–3 business days.
