What makes deli paper different from wrapping paper?

Deli paper is built for speed. Sheets are light, pre-cut and stacked so staff can pull one with a gloved hand and move on.

A heavier wrapping sheet suits food that travels. Deli sheets suit the moment of service: lifting a pastry from the display, separating slices, or giving a sandwich a quick fold before it goes in a bag.

Think of it as the paper equivalent of a pair of tongs. It is there to keep hands off the food and keep the counter moving, rather than to survive a long journey.

Who uses deli sheets every day?

Any counter that handles food by hand all day gets through a stack quickly. These are the businesses that order most often.

Between them, these counters use deli paper for four jobs: picking, wrapping, separating and lining. Knowing which jobs matter most to you shapes the size and print we suggest.

  • Delicatessens slicing cured meats and cheese to order
  • Sandwich shops and sub bars wrapping made-to-order fillings
  • Bakeries picking pastries and cookies from the window display
  • Burger and hot dog bars topping trays and baskets
  • Market stalls serving cut portions of pie, quiche or cake

Which print layout suits a deli counter?

Our photos show three common looks. Each one suits a different kind of counter and a different budget for ink.

Checkerboard is the classic diner look, while illustrated patterns suit a younger street food brand. Corner logos give quiet branding at the lowest ink cost.

If you mainly wrap sandwiches and want a heavier sheet, compare our printed sandwich wrapping paper range as well.

Why print the logo in the corners?

Staff often fold a deli sheet corner to corner into a triangle, then wrap it around a roll or sandwich. A logo in the centre ends up underneath the food.

Corner printing puts the brand exactly where the folded points land, on the outside. The kraft example in our photos uses this layout, with a blue mark on each tip.

It also uses less ink, which keeps the price per sheet lower on a long run.

Can deli paper separate sliced meat and cheese?

Yes, and this is one of its oldest uses. A sheet between slices stops them sticking together in the display tray and in the customer's bag.

For interleaving, smaller plain or lightly printed sheets are usually best. Heavy ink coverage is wasted when the sheet is hidden between slices.

Food-contact materials for deli sheets are available on request; tell us how the sheet will touch the food and we confirm it on your quote.

Greaseproof or kraft deli paper?

Greaseproof sheets hold back oil from buttery pastry, cured meats and fried food. They suit hot counters and anything rich.

Kraft sheets give a natural brown look and suit dry bakes, bagels and cold sandwiches. They are less resistant to grease, so a grease-resistant coating is available on request for oily items. Our guide to greaseproof paper and linings explains the trade-off in more detail.

Many counters order both. Greaseproof goes on the hot side for burgers and sausage rolls, and kraft goes on the cold side for bagels and salads.

How many sheets will my counter get through?

Count for a typical week. Note every sheet used for picking, wrapping and interleaving, because staff often grab two for a messy item.

Multiply that by your reorder period and add some spare for busy weekends. Quantities are quoted per order, so this figure is what we need for a realistic quote.

Usage varies widely between a quiet village café and a lunchtime sandwich bar on a busy street. Your own tally beats any rule of thumb, so it is worth a week of counting before you ask for a quote.

How does deli paper look on a tray or board?

A deli sheet laid across a serving tray turns a plain plastic or wooden base into a branded plate. It also catches crumbs and drips, so the tray needs only a quick wipe between orders.

For trays, choose a sheet about 20 to 30 mm wider than the base on each side. The overhang hides the tray edge and gives customers something to hold when lifting a burger or toastie.

A sheet that is far too large flaps over the edge and tears. Measure one tray before ordering rather than guessing from a catalogue size.

Counter tips for faster service

Keep a short stack at each service point rather than one big pile by the till. Fewer trips mean faster queues at lunch.

Store the rest of the bundles flat and dry, well away from the steam of a coffee machine or bain-marie. Damp sheets cling together and slow staff down.

Train staff to fold the same way every time, so the logo always lands on the outside. A consistent fold also makes wrapped items stack neatly in a paper bag.

What goes wrong with deli paper orders?

  • Choosing a sheet too small to fold around a long sub or baguette
  • Printing a centre logo on sheets that are always folded into triangles
  • Using kraft sheets for very oily food without asking for a coating
  • Ordering only one size when the counter needs a small interleaving sheet too
  • Forgetting to count the sheets used during prep as well as service

Deli Paper: questions buyers ask

Still unsure? Call +44 7578 382054, ask us on WhatsApp or write to info@thefoodpackaging.co.uk.

What size are deli paper sheets usually?

A common size is 250 × 250 mm or 300 × 300 mm, but we cut to whatever your counter needs, in mm or inches.

Can deli sheets have a red and white checkerboard print?

Yes. Checkerboard is printed as a two-colour or one-colour pattern on white paper, and your logo can sit inside a square.

Is deli paper the same as greaseproof paper?

Deli paper is a lighter pre-cut sheet for counter work. It can be made from greaseproof paper or kraft paper, depending on the food.

Can I put my logo only in the corners of deli paper?

Yes. Corner printing keeps the brand visible when the sheet is folded into a triangle, and it uses less ink.

Will deli paper stop sliced cheese sticking together?

A sheet between slices keeps them apart in the display and in the bag. Smaller plain sheets usually work best for this.

Can kraft deli paper handle greasy food?

Plain kraft is less grease resistant than greaseproof paper. A grease-resistant coating is available on request for oily items.

Do deli paper sheets come in a dispenser?

Sheets are supplied flat in stacked bundles. Many counters keep a short stack at each service point for quick picking.

Can I order two sizes of deli sheets on one quote?

Yes. A small interleaving sheet and a larger wrapping sheet can be quoted together, with the same or matching print.

Are deli sheets suitable for direct food contact?

Food-contact materials are available on request. Tell us how the sheets are used and we confirm the paper on your quote.

How quickly can printed deli paper be delivered?

Printed deli sheets take 4–6 business days to make once you approve the proof. Free tracked UK delivery then follows in 2–3 business days.

Can I see my deli paper design before it prints?

Yes. Every order gets a free design proof, and nothing is printed until you approve it.
