Slider boxes are two-piece boxes made of a tray and an outer sleeve. The burger sits in the tray, often on a sheet of greaseproof paper, and the sleeve slides over to close it. They are also used for rows of mini slider burgers.

What is a slider box?

A slider box has two parts. The tray is a shallow open box that holds the food, and the sleeve is a printed band that slides over it.

Our photos show a bright yellow sleeve over a burger sat on greaseproof paper in a white tray. Pull the tray and the burger slides out ready to eat.

Because the sleeve has no lid to fold, the box closes in one push. Staff do not need to find a tab or line up a slot.

The open ends also let the customer see a little of the burger before they slide it out. That small glimpse makes the box feel more like a reveal than a lid.

Why choose a sleeve and tray over a hinged box?

Hinged burger boxes are quick and cheap to fold. Slider boxes cost more effort per box, so they suit brands that want the box itself to stand out.

Which food goes in a slider box?

Slider boxes started with mini burgers, but many shops now use them for a single full-size burger too. The tray shape works for anything that sits flat and wants to slide out cleanly.

Slider boxes also suit brands that sell a burger as a gift or a treat, such as a Valentine's special or a birthday order. The sliding reveal feels like opening a present.

  • Rows of two, three or four mini slider burgers
  • Crispy chicken burgers that need steam to escape
  • Signature burgers sold at a higher price point
  • Tasting boxes at events and food festivals
  • Brioche buns with pulled meat or halloumi

How do I size a tray for mini sliders?

Mini sliders usually sit on buns of about 2 to 2.5 inches, or 50 to 65 mm. Line them up on a board, measure the row and add 5 mm at each end.

Height should clear the tallest slider with any skewer. Most mini sliders sit under 60 mm, so a 70 mm tray works well.

The sleeve is made a few millimetres larger than the tray so it slides without catching. We set that clearance on your template.

Does a slider box keep chicken crisp?

It does better than most sealed boxes. The sleeve is open at both ends, so steam drifts out instead of settling on the coating.

Placing the burger on a sheet of greaseproof paper in the tray helps too. The paper takes the drips and stops the base going soft. Our plain and printed greaseproof paper can be cut to fit the tray.

For very saucy builds, ask for a grease-resistant lining or coating on the tray. Food-contact materials are available on request and confirmed at quote stage.

How should the sleeve and tray be printed?

Most brands print the sleeve in full colour and keep the tray plain or one colour. The sleeve is what people see, photograph and share.

Print a short message on the inside of the tray as a reveal when it slides out. Inside print is available on trays.

Choose plain, one colour, two colour or full colour CMYK, with an uncoated, matte or gloss varnish finish. Our tips on designing food packaging artwork cover how to place a logo across a wrap-around sleeve.

How do you pack a slider box at speed?

Two parts take a little more practice than one. A set routine keeps service moving.

  1. Fold trays before service and keep the sleeves flat until needed.
  2. Lay a greaseproof sheet in each tray at the start of the shift.
  3. Place the burger or sliders in the tray, centred.
  4. Open a sleeve into a tube with one squeeze.
  5. Push the tray into the sleeve until both ends line up.

What goes wrong with slider boxes?

The most common issue is a sleeve that is too tight. If it catches on the tray, staff push harder and squash the burger.

The opposite problem is a loose sleeve that slides off in the bag. We size the clearance from your tray dimensions to avoid both.

Another mistake is ordering sleeves and trays in different quantities. Keep them matched so you never run out of one half.

Can the sleeve carry menu or allergen space?

The sleeve has four flat faces, so there is room for more than a logo. Many shops keep the front for the brand and use a side face for a blank panel.

Staff can write the burger name or tick a box on that panel with a marker. It saves opening the tray to check which order is which.

If you sell several slider sets, a printed tick list on the sleeve end speeds up packing. Keep it short so it stays readable on a narrow face.

Uncoated sleeves take pen best. Gloss varnish can smudge ink, so pick matte or uncoated if staff will write on the box.

Trays with very low walls can also tip a tall burger as the sleeve goes on. Keep tray walls at least half the height of the burger.

Are slider boxes good for delivery?

Yes, if the sleeve fits well and the board suits the weight. Riders can stack them flat because the sleeve top is level.

Put slider boxes in the bag with the open ends facing sideways, not up. That stops sauce from running out of the ends if the bag tips.

How do I order printed slider boxes?

Send your tray size, the number of burgers or sliders, board and print by email or WhatsApp. Quantities are quoted per order, from £0.25 per unit, and a written quote confirms the price.

You see a free proof of both the sleeve and the tray before printing. Making them takes 4–6 business days after sign-off.

Finished slider boxes go out with free tracked delivery to any UK address, usually in 2–3 business days. If a sleeve or tray arrives misprinted or damaged, send photos within 10 days for a reprint or refund.

What is the difference between a slider box and a burger box?

A slider box has a tray that slides into a sleeve. A burger box is one piece with a hinged lid.

Can a slider box hold a full-size burger?

Yes, many shops use slider boxes for one full-size burger. We size the tray to your finished burger.

How many mini sliders fit in one slider box?

Two, three or four are common, in a row or a square. We make the tray to the number you serve.

Do the sleeve and tray both need printing?

No, many brands print only the sleeve in full colour. The tray can stay plain or carry a simple inside message.

Will the sleeve slide off a slider box in the bag?

Not if it is sized to the tray. We set the clearance on the template so it holds without catching.

Do slider boxes need vent holes?

Usually not, as steam escapes through the open ends of the sleeve. That helps crispy coatings stay firmer.

Can I put greaseproof paper in a slider box tray?

Yes, a sheet in the tray catches drips and keeps the base drier. It can be cut to the tray size.

Are slider box sleeves and trays sent flat?

Yes, both arrive flat. The tray folds into shape and the sleeve opens into a tube.

Can slider boxes be made in kraft?

Yes, kraft or white board are both available. Bright sleeve colours print best on white board.

Can I order slider boxes for one event only?

Yes, quantities are quoted per order. Tell us your event date when you ask for a quote.

How long do printed slider boxes take to make?

Allow 4–6 business days after you approve the free proof. Free tracked UK delivery takes 2–3 business days more.
