What makes a burger box small?

A small burger box keeps the same hinged shape as a standard one, just scaled down. The base is usually 80 to 95 mm across instead of 100 to 120 mm.

The boxes in our photos are kraft on the outside with a bright white inside face. Customers open the lid onto a clean white backdrop, which shows the burger off well.

The snug fit is the whole point. A small burger in a standard box slides into a corner and the top bun falls off.

Who orders smaller burger boxes?

Smaller boxes suit any menu with a reduced portion. They are popular with family restaurants, cafés and caterers who serve a lot of children.

Small boxes also suit adult menus. Some burger shops sell a smaller cheeseburger as an add-on, and a matching small box keeps it on brand.

  • Kids' meals with a junior beef or chicken burger
  • Cheeseburgers sold as a cheaper add-on
  • Café lunch menus with a lighter burger
  • Party caterers serving one small burger per guest
  • Food stalls offering a taster size beside the full burger

Small burger box or standard: how do they compare?

Both styles fold and close the same way. The difference is in fit, board and how the box packs.

Small boxes also fold faster, since the flaps are shorter. On a busy family evening that adds up over dozens of junior orders.

Which bun sizes fit a small burger box?

Most junior burgers sit on buns of 3 to 3.5 inches, or about 75 to 90 mm across. Measure the bun after toasting, since some spread a little.

Allow about 5 mm each side. Any more and the burger moves; any less and the cheese sticks to the walls.

For height, a thin patty with cheese and sauce usually stays under 60 mm. A 65 to 70 mm box gives the lid room to close without pressing the bun flat.

Why do small burgers need a snug box?

A light burger moves more than a heavy one. In a loose box it slides on every turn, and the bun lid tips over before the meal arrives.

A close fit holds the bun against all four walls. The burger arrives centred and upright, which matters when a parent opens it in a car park.

Snug boxes also keep heat in better. Less air around the burger means less space for it to cool in.

If you serve two small burger styles that differ by more than 10 mm, order two sizes. One box that fits both will fit neither well.

Is thin folding board enough for small burgers?

For most small burgers, yes. The load is light, so folding board holds its shape and keeps the box neat and easy to fold.

A kraft outer face with a white inner face gives a natural look outside and a clean surface inside. Our greaseproof paper and coated board guide explains linings if your burgers are saucy.

For saucy junior burgers we can add a grease-resistant coating. Food-contact materials are available on request for small boxes too, and the quote confirms them.

How do small burger boxes fit kids' meals?

A small box leaves room in the meal bag for a drink, a fruit bag and a toy. That is hard to do with a full-size burger box.

Many family restaurants pair the small burger box with a printed carry box for the whole meal. Our kids meal boxes with handles are made to take a small burger box inside.

Bright inside print goes down well with children. A simple drawing or puzzle printed under the lid gives them something to look at while they eat.

Junior boxes can also carry a small colouring panel on the outside. Children like to draw on the box while they wait for the rest of the order.

Printing on a smaller lid

A small lid has less room, so keep artwork simple. One logo and one short line read far better than a busy layout.

Choose plain, one colour, two colour or full colour CMYK. Finishes include uncoated, matte or gloss varnish, and inside print is available.

Our designers will fit your logo to the smaller template for free. You will see a free proof before anything prints.

How do you pack a junior meal quickly?

Children's orders often come in groups, so speed matters. This order keeps everything warm and tidy.

Finally, check the box against your tray or bag before a big order. A quick test fold on the proof size saves surprises at the pass.

  1. Fold a run of small boxes before service and stack them open.
  2. Build the junior burger straight into the box.
  3. Close the lid and press the tab firmly into its slot.
  4. Place the box flat in the bottom of the meal bag.
  5. Add chips, drink and extras around it, not on top.

What should you avoid with small burger boxes?

Do not use one small size for everything on a children's menu. Chicken burgers often run wider than beef, so measure both.

Avoid fine print on the lid. Text under about 7 pt becomes hard to read on a box this size, especially on kraft.

Do not skip a lining if the burger has ketchup. Sauce leaks quickly through thin board and marks the white inside.

Small Burger Boxes: questions buyers ask

Still unsure? Call +44 7578 382054, ask us on WhatsApp or write to info@thefoodpackaging.co.uk.

What bun size fits a small burger box?

Most small burger boxes suit buns of about 3 to 3.5 inches. We make the box to your measured bun.

Are small burger boxes good for kids' meals?

Yes, they are a common choice for junior burgers. They leave space in the meal bag for a drink and extras.

Can small burger boxes be kraft outside and white inside?

Yes, that combination is common and shown in our photos. We confirm the board on your quote.

Do small burger boxes need corrugated board?

Usually not, as junior burgers are light. Folding board keeps the box neat and easy to fold.

Can I print a puzzle inside a small burger box?

Yes, inside print is available. A simple puzzle or drawing under the lid works well for children.

Will a chicken burger fit a small burger box?

It may, but chicken fillets often run wider than beef patties. Measure the finished burger before choosing a size.

Can small burger boxes go inside a kids' meal box?

Yes, many restaurants size them to fit inside a larger meal box. Tell us both sizes so they match.

Can I order small and standard burger boxes together?

Yes, ordering both in one run keeps your print colours consistent. Each size gets its own proof.

How small can you make a burger box?

We make burger boxes to the size you give us. Very small boxes may need simpler artwork to stay readable.

Do small burger boxes come with a lining?

A grease-resistant lining is an option you can add when you order. It helps with burgers that carry ketchup or mayonnaise.

How quickly can small burger boxes arrive?

Production runs 4–6 business days once you approve the proof. Delivery is free and tracked across the UK, normally 2–3 business days after dispatch.
