What can be printed on a pizza box?

Almost every outside surface. The lid top is the main area, but the four side walls are seen whenever boxes are stacked on a counter or carried in a bag.

Inside lid print appears the moment the box is opened. It is a good spot for a thank-you line, a menu or a QR code for reordering.

Our photos show the range. There are green leaves on white, white line drawings on a black lid, a deep red full colour lid and dark ink on kraft.

Each of those surfaces can carry a different message. Most shops keep the lid for the brand and use the rest for practical details.

Who gets the most from printed pizza boxes?

Any shop with repeat delivery customers. The box arrives at the door, sits on a table through dinner and often stays on the kitchen side until the bins go out.

Pizza vans and pop-ups gain the most from a strong lid, because they have no shopfront. The box is often the only place a customer sees the name. Our pizza boxes and slice trays range lists every style that can carry your print.

  • Delivery-led pizzerias with a busy app trade
  • Pizza vans at markets and events
  • Pubs launching a pizza menu
  • Restaurants selling take-home pizza kits

Which print option suits your pizza box?

The right option depends on how many colours your logo uses and the look you want. This table compares the four common choices.

Print optionLooks likeWorks best onGood for
One colourA single dark ink, often black or redKraftA traditional pizzeria feel
Two colourLogo in one ink, pattern in anotherKraft or whiteSimple brands with a second accent
Full colour CMYKPhotos, gradients and many coloursWhiteFood photography and illustrations
Flood colourA solid colour across the whole lidWhiteBold red, black or yellow boxes

Does kraft or white board print better?

White gives truer colours because the ink sits on a pale surface. Reds look red and photos keep their detail.

Kraft is brown, so every ink is seen through that brown. Dark inks stay crisp, while pale colours fade into the board. A design with black or deep red line art, like the kraft boxes in our photos, suits it well.

If you like the kraft look but need several colours, ask about two colour print. It keeps the natural board while adding one accent.

The board face also affects grease. White shows an oil mark sooner than kraft, so a lining is worth asking about on white printed boxes.

How should artwork sit around the folds and vents?

A pizza box has creases, a thumb notch and often vent holes. Text or a logo placed over any of these gets cut or bent.

Our proof shows every fold line and cut-out, so you can see exactly where the artwork lands. Keep important text at least 10 mm from any crease. Read our tips on artwork for printed food packaging before you finalise a design.

Remember that the lid opens towards the customer. Artwork on the lid should read the right way up when the box sits with the notch facing them.

  • Centre the logo on the lid, away from the front tuck flap
  • Keep side wall text short; walls are often only 40 to 50 mm tall
  • Avoid thin lines across the thumb notch
  • Extend background colour past the cut line so no white edge shows

What should go on the lid?

Lead with your name, big enough to read from a few metres. After that, one strong image says more than a list of dishes.

Some shops print a slogan, others an illustration of their oven or their street. A single word in large type, like the boxes in our photos, also works.

Contact details belong on the side walls rather than the lid. Your website, social handle and ordering QR code fit neatly there.

Look at your box from across the room before you approve it. If the name is not readable at that distance, make it bigger.

Is inside print worth adding?

Inside print is a separate choice on your quote, so it should earn its place. It works best when it gives the customer something to do.

A QR code to reorder, a loyalty stamp or a note about your dough are common choices. A pattern on the inside lid also makes the opening moment feel special.

Keep inside print to the lid rather than the base. The base sits under hot oil and is rarely seen.

Can every pizza size share one design?

Yes, and that saves time. We scale your artwork to each size and send a proof for every one.

Small boxes sometimes need a simpler version, because a busy design shrinks badly on a 9 inch lid. If you also sell by the slice, our printed pizza slice boxes can carry the same artwork.

Keep the logo the same size on every box where you can. A customer collecting three sizes then sees one consistent brand on the stack.

How the artwork process works

You do not need finished files to start. Our designers give free layout help and turn a logo into a print-ready box.

  1. Send your logo, colours and any wording you want on the box.
  2. Tell us which sizes you need and whether you want inside print.
  3. We place the artwork on a flat box template and send a free proof.
  4. You check it, ask for changes, and approve when it is right.
  5. Production starts only after you approve the proof.

What printing mistakes should you avoid?

Pizza boxes are a big print area on a textured board. These errors show up most often on first orders.

If exact shades matter, send your colour references with the artwork. Screens show colours brighter than board can print them.

  • Sending a low-resolution logo copied from a website
  • Choosing pale colours on kraft, where they almost disappear
  • Packing the lid with text that nobody reads in a hurry
  • Placing your web address where the tuck flap covers it

Printed Pizza Boxes: questions buyers ask

Still unsure? Call +44 7578 382054, ask us on WhatsApp or write to info@thefoodpackaging.co.uk.

Can you print a photo of my pizza on the box lid?

Yes. Full colour CMYK on white board reproduces photos well. Send the highest resolution image you have.

Which ink colours work on kraft pizza boxes?

Dark inks such as black, deep red or dark green show clearly. Pale colours and white fade into the brown board.

Can a printed pizza box have a solid black lid?

Yes. A flood colour covers the whole lid in one solid colour. A light logo or line drawing stands out well on black.

Is it possible to print the side walls of a pizza box?

Yes. All four side walls can be printed. They suit short text like your web address or a social handle.

What is inside lid print on a pizza box?

It is artwork printed on the underside of the lid. Customers see it as soon as they open the box.

Do I need a designer to order printed pizza boxes?

No. Our designers give free layout help and set your logo on a box template for you.

Can one artwork be used for several pizza box sizes?

Yes. We scale it to each size and proof them all. Very small sizes may need a simpler version.

What file types do you need for pizza box artwork?

PDF, AI, EPS or SVG files are preferred. A high-resolution PNG or JPG is accepted too.

Will text near the folds be readable?

Keep text at least 10 mm from creases and cut-outs. Your proof shows every fold line so you can check.

Can printed pizza boxes have a grease-resistant lining?

Yes, on request. It helps keep oil from marking the print on the base and walls.

Are food-contact materials available for printed pizza boxes?

Yes, on request, and your written quote states the material we will use.

Can I see my pizza box design before it is printed?

Yes. Every order gets a free design proof. Nothing is printed until you approve it.
