What are kebab and wrap boxes?

They are long cartons cut to the shape of a rolled wrap. A shawarma is about the length of a forearm and only a few fingers wide. In a burger box or a square takeaway box it simply rolls about.

A kebab box holds the wrap in a snug channel. The wrap stays rolled, the paper inside stays put, and the customer can open one end and eat straight from the carton.

Most kebab shops end up with two or three box styles. One for wraps eaten on the spot, one for delivery and sometimes a double for family orders. Keeping each style in one print design makes reordering easy.

Which kebab box style should you choose?

Three styles cover most shops. Each one closes differently and suits a different way of serving, so it helps to think about where the wrap is eaten.

Who uses printed kebab boxes?

Kebab houses and shawarma grills are the obvious buyers. Burrito shops, falafel stalls and chicken grills also order them for long wraps that do not suit a bag.

  • Late-night kebab shops sending wraps out with delivery riders
  • Shawarma grills serving lunch queues at speed
  • Falafel and halloumi stalls at markets and food halls
  • Chicken shops selling peri wraps alongside burgers
  • Event caterers handing out wraps at weddings and parties

How long should a shawarma box be?

Measure three wraps straight off your line and take the longest. Add about 10 mm to the length and 5 mm to the width. That gap lets staff drop the wrap in without tearing the paper, but stops it rolling.

Height matters as much as length. A doner stuffed with salad stands taller than a slim chicken wrap. If the lid has to be forced shut, sauce gets squeezed out of the ends before the customer opens it.

Write down the sizes of your three most popular wraps before you ask for a quote. Many shops find two box sizes cover the whole menu. A single box for a mixed grill and a smaller one for chicken or falafel keeps the counter tidy and saves board.

How do you stop sauce leaking through a kebab box?

Garlic sauce and chilli sauce run to the lowest point, which is the bottom corner of the box. Plain board will darken there within a few minutes. A grease-resistant coating on the inside slows that right down.

Wrapping the kebab in a sheet of greaseproof first also helps. The sheet catches the drips, and the box stays clean for the rider. Our printed wrap and burrito paper is cut to sit inside these boxes.

Printing that works on a long, thin box

The long side panel is your billboard. Run your shop name along it in large letters so it reads from across a counter or in a rider's hands. The ends are small, so keep them for an icon or a sauce code.

Full colour CMYK suits photo-style designs with grilled meat and salad. One or two colour print on kraft gives a plainer grill-house look. Inside print works too, for a menu or a social handle under the lid.

  • Shop name along the long side, readable from a distance
  • Icon or sauce code on the end flaps
  • Opening instruction printed near the tear strip
  • Reorder or social handle printed inside the lid

Do kebab boxes keep a wrap warm on the way home?

A closed board box holds heat better than a paper bag, because the air around the wrap stays still. A snug box helps most. Large empty space inside cools the wrap faster and lets steam collect under the lid.

Steam is the trade-off. A fully sealed box keeps heat in, but the tortilla softens. Many grills leave one end flap loosely tucked for short walks home, and close it fully for delivery rides of fifteen minutes or more.

If your wraps are toasted on the grill after rolling, ask us about a small window cut-out on the lid. It lets a little steam out while the box stays shut.

Packing kebabs for delivery riders

Long boxes lie flat in a delivery bag and stack two or three high. Lay them along the length of the bag so they do not slide sideways on corners.

Keep chips in a separate box. Steam from chips softens a wrap quickly, and the wrap's sauce makes the chips soggy in return. If you sell wrap and chip meals, see our burger and chip boxes with two compartments.

What goes wrong with kebab box orders?

The most common slip is ordering a box sized for a chicken wrap and then putting a mixed grill in it. Size for your biggest wrap, not the most popular one.

  1. Measuring a cold wrap instead of one fresh from the grill
  2. Skipping the grease-resistant coating on a sauce-heavy menu
  3. Putting the logo on the end flap, where nobody sees it
  4. Choosing a pillow pack for wraps that go out with chips
  5. Forgetting that staff need to fold flat stock quickly at peak

How do staff fold a kebab box at the counter?

Boxes arrive flat to save space. Most styles fold up in a few seconds with a push on the base and a tuck of the flaps. Fold a stack before the evening rush so the line never waits on packaging.

Keep folded boxes standing on end beside the grill. They take up very little counter space that way.

Kebab and Wrap Boxes: questions buyers ask

Still unsure? Call +44 7578 382054, ask us on WhatsApp or write to info@thefoodpackaging.co.uk.

Can a kebab box hold a wrap and a small salad pot?

A wider hinged box can fit a wrap and a small pot side by side. Give us the pot size and we allow for it in the box.

What is a pillow pack for shawarma?

It is a curved carton with rounded ends that press shut by hand. Customers pull one end open and eat the wrap from it.

Do kebab boxes come with a tear strip?

We can add a perforated tear strip on tuck-end styles. It lets customers open the box halfway and hold the wrap like a sleeve.

Will garlic sauce mark the outside of the box?

On plain board it can, given time. Ask for a grease-resistant coating inside, and wrap the kebab in greaseproof paper first.

Can I order one box size for both doner and chicken wraps?

Yes, if you size for the larger doner. The chicken wrap sits with a little extra room, which most shops find fine.

Should kebab boxes be white or kraft?

White board shows bright full colour print best. Kraft suits a grill-house look with one or two colour print.

Do kebab boxes arrive folded?

They arrive flat in packs, which saves space in a small shop. Staff fold them by hand in a few seconds.

Can the inside of a kebab box be printed?

Yes, inside print is available on boxes. Shops often use it for a menu, a sauce guide or a social handle.

How many wraps fit side by side in a double kebab box?

A box around 160 mm wide inside usually takes two standard wraps. We confirm the fit against your own wrap size.

Are food-contact boards available for kebab boxes?

Food-contact materials are available on request. Your written quote names the board used for your kebab boxes.

Can you design my kebab box if I only have a logo?

Yes. Send the logo and tell us your colours, and our designers lay out the box for free before your proof.

What happens if my kebab boxes arrive damaged?

Send photos of the damage within 10 days of delivery and we reprint or refund the boxes. See our reprints and refunds policy page for the details.
