What does the popcorn and snack range include?

Six items sit in this range. Five are for popcorn in different portion sizes and formats. The sixth is a paper cone for other dry snacks, such as nuts, sweets and crisps.

Popcorn is light and bulky, so packaging is chosen by volume rather than weight. A large portion fills a tall bucket but weighs very little.

The table compares every item.

Who buys popcorn and snack packaging?

Cinemas, theatres and stadiums order the biggest volumes. Fairgrounds, festivals and family attractions follow, along with party planners and wedding caterers using mini boxes.

Snack brands use the range for sampling at shows and shops. A printed box with a handful of flavoured popcorn is a simple way to introduce a product.

Most venues start with printed popcorn boxes for venues in two or three sizes, then add buckets for sharing.

  • Independent cinemas and theatres
  • Stadiums and sports grounds
  • Fairgrounds, festivals and family attractions
  • Wedding planners and party hosts
  • Snack brands sampling at events
  • Nut and sweet roasters at markets

Box, bucket, bag or cone: which format suits you?

Each format suits a different way of eating. Boxes and buckets sit on a lap in a cinema seat. Bags and cones work when people walk around.

Boxes are the all-rounder. Buckets hold the most and look generous, which suits sharing sizes. Bags are cheapest per portion and fastest to fill. Cones are easy to hold in one hand while carrying a drink.

For large and sharing portions, tall popcorn buckets for sharing are the usual choice. Their height keeps popcorn in when someone reaches in from above.

Many venues use two formats rather than one. A cinema might pair boxes for single portions with buckets for sharing, while a fair might pair cones with bags for the busiest hours.

What sizes do popcorn boxes and buckets come in?

Popcorn is usually sold in small, medium and large, sometimes with a sharing size on top. Volume is the honest measure, and buckets are often described in ounces or litres.

A small box might hold around 1 litre of popped corn, a medium around 2 litres and a large around 3 to 4 litres. Sharing buckets go bigger still.

All sizes are made to order, so you can match your current portions. Fill your existing containers with popcorn and measure them if you are moving from another supplier.

For parties and weddings, mini popcorn boxes for party favours hold a small handful and stand neatly on a table.

Which board and paper suit popcorn?

Popcorn is dry but often buttery or sugary. Butter leaves marks, and caramel can stick to plain board.

Boxes and buckets are usually white or kraft folding board, which is firm and prints well. A grease-resistant lining or coating on request helps with butter and toffee popcorn.

Bags and cones are paper. Kraft paper is strong and suits a natural look. Greaseproof paper suits buttered popcorn, so oil does not show through the print.

Sweet and salty mixes behave like toffee popcorn, so treat them the same way. If in doubt, tell us the recipe and we suggest the board or paper on your quote.

  • Plain salted popcorn: plain board or paper is often enough
  • Butter popcorn: ask for a grease-resistant coating
  • Toffee and caramel: lined board stops sticking
  • Mixed snacks with oil: greaseproof paper cones

When do popcorn bags make more sense than boxes?

Bags win when the queue is long and the portion is small. They fill in seconds, store flat in a fraction of the space and cost less per unit.

They suit school fairs, sports days, fêtes and giveaways at shows. They are less suited to cinemas, where people want something stable on their lap.

Printed paper popcorn bags usually carry a bold logo on the front panel, as the sides fold in.

A good rule of thumb is the length of the queue. If people wait more than a few minutes at peak times, bags will clear it faster than boxes that need folding first.

Are popcorn cones and snack cones the same thing?

They are close cousins. Popcorn cones are made for the volume of popcorn, which is bulky and light. Snack cones are often smaller, for denser snacks like roasted nuts or sweets.

Both are held in one hand and suit people on the move. Both can be printed all the way round.

Market traders roasting nuts or selling pick-and-mix often choose paper snack cones for nuts and sweets. Fairground popcorn stalls lean towards taller cones that hold a bigger, lighter portion.

Cone size follows the portion. A snack cone for 100 g of nuts can be quite small, while a popcorn cone needs far more volume for the same weight of food.

How should popcorn packaging be printed?

Popcorn packaging is a big printed surface for a small cost. A bucket in a cinema seat is seen for the whole film. A cone at a fair is seen across a field.

Bold stripes and simple logos are classic for a reason: they read at a distance. Full colour CMYK suits venues with detailed artwork, while one or two colour on kraft suits a craft popcorn brand.

Our designers give free layout help, and a free proof shows every item before printing.

  1. Pick the formats and sizes you sell.
  2. Choose white or kraft for each item.
  3. Send your logo, or ask us to lay out a stripe or pattern.
  4. Check the free proof for each size.
  5. Approve it, and production starts.

How can snack brands use popcorn packaging for sampling?

Sampling is about getting a product into a hand quickly. A small printed box or cone does that and carries the brand name away from the stand.

Keep the sample portion small. A handful is enough to taste, and a small box keeps the cost per sample down when you hand out hundreds at a show.

Print the flavour and your website clearly. People taste at an event, then look you up later, so the packaging needs to answer the question of where to buy.

Mini boxes and snack cones both work well here. Boxes stand on a counter in neat rows, while cones can be handed straight to people walking past.

  • Use a small portion that can be eaten in a few bites
  • Print the flavour name large on the front
  • Add your website or social handle
  • Pick a format that can be set out quickly on a stand

How do you store popcorn packaging at a busy venue?

Boxes and buckets arrive flat. Fold a batch before doors open and stack them beside the popcorn machine.

Keep flat packs away from the steam of the machine and any drinks station. Board that picks up moisture loses its shape and the box will not stand straight.

Bags and cones store flat in very little space, which helps at events where you have only a table and a van.

Cones are the trickiest to keep tidy, because they do not stand up on their own. A simple cone rack or a box with holes cut in the lid keeps popcorn cones for walk-about portions ready to fill at a fairground stall.

What mistakes do venues make with popcorn packaging?

A few slips come up again and again with popcorn packaging, especially for first orders.

Most of these are easy to catch before ordering. Measure your current portion against the new size, and check the cup holders and trays in your seats.

  • Using plain board for butter or toffee popcorn, which leaves marks
  • Ordering boxes when a fast queue would be better served by bags
  • Choosing a bucket too wide to fit cinema cup holders or trays
  • Printing small text on cones, where it wraps out of view
  • Splitting the order evenly across sizes when the medium outsells the rest

Can popcorn buckets be made square?

Yes. Buckets can be round or square, and both can be printed all the way round.

For plain salted popcorn, kraft paper is often fine. For buttered popcorn, greaseproof paper stops oil showing through.

Do mini popcorn boxes come in more than one size?

Mini boxes hold a small handful and are sized to suit your event. Send the portion you want and we size the box.

Can snack cones hold hot roasted nuts?

Yes, paper snack cones are used for warm roasted nuts. Greaseproof paper suits oily or glazed nuts.

Can I order one design across boxes, bags and cones?

Are popcorn boxes delivered flat?

Yes. They arrive flat and fold quickly before service.

Can popcorn packaging be printed with stripes?
