What makes a kraft cupcake box different?

The shape and insert work just like a white cupcake box. The difference is the board: natural brown kraft, which gives every box a plain, handmade feel before any ink goes on.

Our photos show kraft boxes of six with flip lids and wide windows, and a box of four with a scalloped window and an empty insert. There is a long two-cake box with a wavy window, and a gable box with a carry handle showing two cupcakes through the front.

Kraft boxes look at home on a wooden market table or a farm shop shelf. They tell the customer the cakes were baked nearby, in small batches.

Should you choose kraft or white board?

It comes down to how you want the box to look and how you plan to print it. This comparison covers the points bakers ask about most.

Who uses kraft cupcake boxes?

Kraft suits sellers whose brand is about baking by hand. The brown board sits naturally beside wooden crates, chalkboards and linen-covered tables.

Our full range of cake and cupcake boxes covers white and printed styles if your brand needs brighter colours.

  • Market and fête stallholders selling by the half dozen
  • Farm shops with a local baker's cupcakes on the shelf
  • Village bakeries and tearooms
  • Wedding cake makers supplying rustic-style favours
  • Café counters selling pairs of cupcakes to take away

How does print look on brown kraft?

Ink on kraft sits on a brown base, so colours print darker and softer than on white board. Black, navy, dark green and deep red read clearly.

Pale pink, yellow and pastel shades fade into the brown and can almost disappear. If your brand colour is light, test it on the proof or switch to white board.

Fine lines and very small text also soften slightly on kraft, because the fibres absorb a little ink. Keep text above about 7 point.

A one colour logo with a short line such as your town or website suits kraft well. Our Design Your Packaging page shows how a logo sits on each panel.

Which kraft box holds two cupcakes?

Two styles cover pairs. The long box has a window along the lid and a two-hole insert, and it lies flat in a bag.

The gable box, shown in our photos, has a handle formed from the top panels and a window in the front. It suits customers walking away from a stall with their hands full.

A pair is a good size for a café counter, sold with two coffees. It also keeps two flavours apart where a box of four would be too much.

Long boxes also stack neatly in a crate on the way to a stall. Gable boxes need more height, so pack them in a single layer.

Do grease marks show on kraft board?

They can. Butter in buttercream darkens kraft where it touches, leaving brown patches on the insert and lid.

A grease-resistant coating on request keeps the inside clear. Setting the icing before boxing and leaving space above the swirl also helps a lot.

Our guide to coated board and grease-resistant linings explains the options in more detail.

Scalloped or straight window?

Scalloped windows, with a wavy edge like the ones in our photos, give kraft boxes a vintage bakery look. They suit tearooms and handmade brands.

A straight-edged window gives a simpler, modern look and leaves more board for print around it. Either way, keep at least 15 mm of board around the window so the lid stays firm.

Scallops need a little more board around them than a straight cut. Very small scallops can tear when the lid is opened in a hurry, so we keep them to a size that folds cleanly.

How can you brand kraft boxes on a small budget?

One colour print across the whole order keeps set-up simple. Put your logo on the lid and your website or social handle on one side.

For flavours, use a small sticker on the lid or end panel. One printed box then works for every flavour you bake, and seasonal bakes for Easter or Halloween just get a new sticker.

Tie a length of twine through ribbon slots for gift orders. It costs little and suits the kraft look.

Are kraft boxes a good fit for weddings and parties?

Yes, especially for rustic or garden weddings. A single cupcake in a small kraft box, with the couple's initials in one colour, makes a simple favour at each place setting.

For a birthday tea or a baby shower, try a kraft box of four with a coloured sticker. It matches the theme without a full colour print run.

Event orders often need one design for a single date. Tell us the event date when you request a quote so the proof and production fit around it.

Common mistakes with kraft cupcake boxes

Tell us where you sell and how customers usually buy, and we suggest sizes on the quote.

  • Printing a pale brand colour that vanishes on brown board
  • Placing fine white-space logos on a dark kraft panel
  • Leaving too little board around a scalloped window
  • Forgetting buttercream oil will darken the insert
  • Ordering a box of six when stall customers mostly buy two

How do you order kraft cupcake boxes?

Kraft cupcake boxes begin from £0.25 per unit, and your written quote sets the figure for your order. Quantities are quoted per order, with each box size listed separately.

  6. They travel by free tracked UK delivery, arriving in 2–3 business days.

Kraft Cupcake Boxes: questions buyers ask

Still unsure? Call +44 7578 382054, ask us on WhatsApp or write to info@thefoodpackaging.co.uk.

Which ink colours show up best on kraft cupcake boxes?

Dark colours such as black, navy, dark green and deep red. Pale shades fade into the brown board.

Can kraft cupcake boxes be printed in full colour?

They can, but colours print darker and softer on brown. For bright full colour, white board is the better choice.

Do you make a kraft box for two cupcakes?

Yes. There is a long box with a lid window and a gable box with a carry handle, both with a two-hole insert.

What is a scalloped window?

It is a window with a wavy, scalloped edge instead of straight sides. It gives the box a traditional bakery look.

Will butter from icing stain kraft board?

It can darken the board where it touches. Ask for a grease-resistant coating on the inside to stop that.

Are the inserts in kraft boxes also kraft?

Yes, as standard, so the inside matches the outside. The holes are punched to your cupcake case size.

Is kraft board as strong as white board for cupcakes?

Both folding boards hold cupcakes well. Kraft has a slightly rougher surface, which changes how print looks rather than how the box performs.

Can I add twine or ribbon to kraft boxes?

Yes. We cut slots in the lid so you can thread twine or ribbon through for gift orders.

Are kraft cupcake boxes good for a market stall?

Yes. Long and gable boxes of two are easy to hand over and carry, and the brown board suits a stall setting.

Are food-contact materials available for kraft cupcake boxes?

Food-contact materials are available on request. Tell us what you bake and the quote confirms the board.

Do you make kraft boxes for other bakes as well?

Yes. Our window bakery boxes for pastries and buns come in kraft too.
