What makes baklava packaging different?
Baklava is layered pastry soaked in syrup and butter. It is heavy for its size, it drips, and the top layers shatter if anything presses on them.
So the box must be shallow enough to keep pieces in one layer, strong enough not to bow, and lined so syrup does not soak through. It also needs to look generous, because baklava is so often a gift.
Our gallery shows three answers. A black gift lid sits over a gold tray of twenty-one pieces. Beside it are a cream and green tuck box with a gold band, and a pale sleeve with a window over pistachio pieces.
Who uses printed baklava boxes?
Sweet shops, family bakeries, dessert parlours and restaurants that sell boxed sweets at the till order most of them. Caterers order them for weddings and engagement parties, where each table or guest gets a box.
Shops that also sell cakes and pastries can find matching boxes in our bakery packaging range for sweet shops.
Restaurants that finish a meal with baklava often sell a small box at the till. A guest who enjoyed dessert takes a box home, and your name goes with them.
- Walnut and pistachio baklava sold by weight
- Gift trays for Eid, Ramadan iftar visits and weddings
- Mixed boxes with rolled, square and bird's nest pieces
- Single portions for dessert takeaway orders
- Corporate gift boxes with a company logo
How do you size a baklava box by weight?
Most shops sell baklava in 250 g, 500 g and 1 kg boxes. The weight you can fit depends on piece size, so weigh a full tray before ordering.
Lay your pieces in a single layer the way you serve them. Measure the outside edges, then add 5 mm each side. Height is the tallest piece plus around 10 mm, which usually lands near 40 mm.
Use the size table above as a starting point. We make each box to your own measurements, in millimetres or inches.
If you sell the same weight in two piece sizes, size the box for the larger pieces. Smaller ones then fill the tray with an extra row.
Do baklava boxes need a lining?
In almost every case, yes. Syrup and butter pool at the base of the tray, and plain board darkens within hours.
Ask for a grease-resistant lining or coating, available on request. Most shops also sit each piece in a small paper case or on a sheet of greaseproof paper. That keeps syrup off the tray and makes pieces easy to lift.
Our guide to coated board and greaseproof linings explains the options in more detail.
Which box style suits each sale?
The right style depends on how the box is bought and how far it travels.
| Style | Best for | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Tray and lift-off lid | Gift boxes of 500 g and 1 kg | Large lid for print; looks like a present |
| Tray and window sleeve | Counter sales and display shelves | Customers see the pieces before buying |
| Tuck-end box | Quick weigh-and-pack at the till | Fast to close; stacks neatly in bags |
| Small tray with lid | Single portions and favours | Holds two to four pieces in place |
Printing for gifts and celebrations
Baklava boxes often carry rich colours such as deep green, black, cream and gold. Full colour CMYK can print gold-effect patterns and borders, like the band on the green box in our photos.
One colour on kraft or white suits an everyday counter box. Many shops keep that box year-round and order a special printed run for Eid or the wedding season.
We can print the inside of the tray as well as the lid. A warm gold-effect colour on the tray floor frames the pieces nicely when the lid comes off.
Can a baklava box have a window?
Yes, on sleeve and lid styles. A window works best on a shop shelf, where customers compare pistachio and walnut boxes side by side.
Keep the window away from where syrup collects. On a sleeve, the window sits over the top of the pieces, so the film stays clean.
For gift boxes, many shops skip the window and print a pattern across the whole lid instead. The pieces then come as a surprise, which suits a box handed over on a family visit.
How should baklava boxes be packed?
Packed this way, pieces arrive with their tops intact and the syrup stays where it belongs.
- Let freshly syruped baklava rest until the syrup is fully absorbed.
- Place each piece in a paper case or on greaseproof paper.
- Fill the tray in a single layer, edge to edge, so nothing can slide.
- Close the lid or slide on the sleeve without pressing down.
- Add a seal sticker or a string tie for gift boxes.
- Store boxes flat, never on their side, away from heat.
Can one box hold different baklava shapes?
Yes, and mixed boxes are some of the most popular gifts. Squares, diamonds, rolls and bird's nests all fit one tray if they share a similar height.
Arrange the pieces in rows by shape before you measure. Rolls take up more length than squares, so measure the finished layout, not a single piece.
A printed key inside the lid helps customers tell the walnut from the pistachio. It also saves staff explaining each piece at a busy counter.
What mistakes do sweet shops make?
The first is boxing baklava too soon. Wet syrup runs to the corners and pools under the lining.
The second is ordering one deep box and stacking two layers. The weight of the top layer crushes the pieces below. Two shallow boxes, or one wider box, always work better.
The third is skipping the lining to save a little on cost. It almost always shows on the box within a day.
A fourth is leaving packaging until the last week before Eid. Order early, so the proof, production and delivery fit comfortably before the busiest days.
How do you order baklava boxes?
Prices start from £0.25 per unit and every order gets a written quote. Quantities are quoted per order, so a run for one wedding or one season is fine to ask about.
Send your weights, piece size and logo by email or WhatsApp. We send back a free proof, and production takes 4–6 business days after you approve it. Your baklava boxes are then delivered free and tracked to any UK address within 2–3 business days.

Will syrup leak through a baklava box?
Plain board will absorb syrup. Ask for a grease-resistant lining or coating, which is available on request and strongly advised.
How big is a 1 kg baklava box?
A single-layer 1 kg box is often around 300 × 200 × 40 mm inside. Piece size changes this, so we size it to your tray.
Can baklava be stacked two layers deep in one box?
We advise against it. The top layer crushes the pieces below, so a wider single-layer box works better.
Do you make baklava boxes for Eid gifts?
Yes. Many shops order a special printed run for Eid. Quantities are quoted per order, so a seasonal run is fine.
Can a baklava box have a window?
Yes, a window cut-out in the sleeve or lid is available on suitable styles. We place it away from where syrup collects.
Should each baklava piece sit in a paper case?
It helps. Paper cases or a sheet of greaseproof paper keep syrup off the tray and make pieces easier to lift out.
Can baklava boxes be printed in gold?
We print in full colour CMYK, which can reproduce gold-effect colours and patterns. Your proof shows how they will look.
What board do you use for baklava boxes?
White or kraft folding board, chosen to suit the weight of your box. The quote confirms the board.
Can I order baklava boxes for wedding favours?
Yes. A small tray holding two to four pieces is a common favour box, and we can print names and the date.
Are food-contact materials available for baklava boxes?
Yes, food-contact materials are available on request, confirmed on your quote.
How quickly will my printed baklava boxes arrive?
Your baklava boxes go into production once the proof is approved, and making them takes 4–6 business days. Free tracked delivery to your shop follows in 2–3 business days.
Can I order baklava boxes and brownie boxes together?
Yes, they can share one quote. See our brownie and traybake gift boxes for square-cut sweets.
No question matches that search.
