What is a popcorn cone?

A popcorn cone is a sheet of printed paper rolled into a point and glued along one edge. The wide top takes a scoop of popcorn, and the tip is folded closed.

Our photos show a red striped cone and a set of spotted and harlequin cones holding caramel popcorn. There is also a yellow popcorn-print cone and a white cone with a checked inner edge. All are rolled from a single printed sheet.

A cone holds a smaller portion than a box or a bucket. That is the point: it is a quick, light treat rather than a full cinema serving.

Where do popcorn cones work best?

Cones shine wherever a lot of people need a small portion at once. They need no table and are easy for small hands.

  • Children's birthday parties and soft play party rooms
  • School film nights and community cinema evenings
  • Popcorn brands offering flavour tastings at markets and food halls
  • Wedding evening buffets and dessert tables
  • Shop openings and promotional events handing out free samples
  • Halloween and Easter events with themed prints

How long should a popcorn cone be?

Measure the cone from the tip to the top edge. Around 180 mm is a common length for a child's portion at a party.

Popcorn does not pack tightly, so the narrow tip fills with only a few pieces. Most of the portion sits in the top third of the cone and mounds above the rim.

Tasting cones can be much shorter. Around 150 mm holds a few mouthfuls, which is enough for a customer to try one flavour.

Paper or board: what should a popcorn cone be made from?

Most popcorn cones are rolled paper. White paper makes patterns bright, while kraft paper suits a natural, handmade look.

Light popcorn barely weighs anything, so heavy board is rarely needed. A light white folding board can be used if you want a firmer cone for a branded event.

Caramel and butter coatings can mark plain paper. Greaseproof paper or a grease-resistant coating on request keeps the outside clean. Food-contact materials are available on request for cones, confirmed with your price.

How do I set up a popcorn cone station?

A full stand looks inviting and keeps the table tidy. Tell us your stand's hole size and we make the cones to sit at an even depth.

  1. Place a cone stand or a block with drilled holes at the front of the table.
  2. Pre-fill a first row of cones before guests arrive.
  3. Keep a bowl or bucket of popcorn and a scoop behind the stand for refills.
  4. Put flavour labels in front of each row if you offer more than one.
  5. Keep a stack of empty cones out of reach of steam and spills.

How do you design print for a rolled cone?

The flat sheet is a curved fan shape, which becomes a cone once rolled. Straight stripes on the sheet turn into diagonal stripes on the cone, as the first photo shows.

All-over patterns such as spots, triangles and stripes are the easiest to get right, because they hide the seam. A single central logo can end up split across the glued edge.

Keep wording near the wide top. Text near the tip shrinks and wraps out of sight. Our guide to artwork that prints well on packaging explains bleed and safe areas.

How are popcorn cones different from chip or snack cones?

Popcorn cones carry a light, dry snack, so they are usually rolled paper with no sauce pocket. They are about portion and colour more than strength.

Chip cones need to cope with heat, oil and dips, so they are often folded board. For nuts, salads and waffles, see our paper snack cones for street food, which come in firmer styles.

Which mistakes come up with popcorn cones?

All of these are simple to avoid. Mention your event when you ask for a quote and we will flag anything that could go wrong.

  • Ordering long cones for tasting portions, which look half empty
  • Placing a logo across the glued seam
  • Using plain paper for toffee popcorn on a warm day
  • Forgetting a stand, so filled cones roll across the table
  • Filling cones too early, so the popcorn softens before guests arrive

Can popcorn cones be themed for seasonal events?

Yes. Cones are a cheap way to run a short themed design, such as a Halloween pattern or an Easter print.

Order the seasonal run alongside your everyday design, and keep each in its own labelled bundle. Our designers set up both proofs at the same time.

A themed cone can also carry a short event line, such as a school name or a party date. Keep that line to a few words near the rim, so it reads at a glance.

Seasonal runs are usually smaller than your everyday order. Plan them a few weeks ahead so proofing, production and delivery all land before the event.

How many popcorn cones does an event need?

Start with your guest list, then allow for second helpings. Children at a party often come back for another cone, and so do adults at a film night.

Add spares for spills and for cones that get crushed in the box or on the table. A small extra bundle is cheaper than running out halfway through the evening.

If you run events every month, order a single design in a larger quantity and store it flat or nested. Quantities are quoted per order, so ask us to price two or three options side by side.

How do I order printed popcorn cones?

Send us the cone length, paper type, print design and rough quantities. Quantities are quoted per order, and prices start from £0.25 per unit, confirmed in writing.

Layout help from our designers is free, and so is the proof. Your cones are produced in 4–6 business days after sign-off and delivered free with tracking across the UK in 2–3 business days.

Send photos within 10 days if any cones arrive misprinted or damaged, and we will reprint or refund. To compare formats, browse our popcorn and snack packaging.

Popcorn Cones: questions buyers ask

Still unsure? Call +44 7578 382054, ask us on WhatsApp or write to info@thefoodpackaging.co.uk.

How much popcorn does a paper cone hold?

A cone holds a small portion, less than a standard popcorn box. Most of it sits in the top third and above the rim.

Are popcorn cones made of paper or card?

Most are rolled paper in white, kraft or greaseproof. A light white folding board is possible for a firmer cone.

Do popcorn cones come ready rolled?

They can be supplied pre-rolled and nested, or flat for rolling on site. Tell us which suits your event.

How do I stop filled popcorn cones falling over?

Use a cone stand or a block with drilled holes. Give us the hole size and we size the cones to match.

Can popcorn cones be printed with spots or stripes?

Yes. All-over patterns work especially well because they hide the glued seam.

Are popcorn cones good for kids' parties?

Yes. They are light, easy for small hands and come in bright prints that suit a party table.

Can I use popcorn cones for flavour tastings?

Yes. Short cones around 150 mm hold a few mouthfuls, which suits tasting stalls and free samples.

Will caramel popcorn mark a paper cone?

It can on plain paper. Choose greaseproof paper or ask for a grease-resistant coating on request.

Are printed paper cones approved for direct contact with popcorn?

Food-contact materials are available on request for popcorn cones, confirmed on your written quote.

Can you make a Halloween popcorn cone design?

Yes. Seasonal designs such as Halloween or Easter can run alongside your everyday cones.

How are popcorn cones delivered?

They arrive nested or flat in bundles, by free tracked delivery to UK addresses in 2–3 business days.

What is the price of printed popcorn cones?

Pricing starts from £0.25 per unit. The exact price depends on size, paper and print, and is confirmed on a written quote.
